Our Mission

At Nova ABA Services Inc., we empower children with autism and developmental disabilities to reach their fullest potential through compassionate, individualized, and evidence-based ABA therapy. We are committed to providing family-centred care grounded in cultural humility and trauma-informed practices - nurturing growth, building meaningful skills, and celebrating every milestone to help every star shine brighter.

Understanding ABA Therapy @ Nova: A Compassionate, Evidence-Based Approach

At Nova ABA Services, we believe that families deserve not only access to therapy but also a clear understanding of what we do and why we do it.

We are here to help you better understand Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), the science behind our services and how our unique, value-based approach makes a difference in the lives of children and their families.

What Is ABA Therapy?

Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) is an evidence-based scientific approach used to understand and improve behaviour. ABA focuses on how behaviour works, how it is affected by the environment, and how learning takes place.

Through ABA, we teach meaningful skills such as communication, social interaction, emotional regulation, play, self-help, daily living skills, etc., and help reduce behaviours that may interfere with a child’s ability to learn or engage in everyday life.

ABA is individualized to each person’s strengths, needs, and environment. It’s not a one-size-fits-all approach and at Nova, it never will be.

Our Core Values

At Nova ABA Services, our work is grounded in six core values. Here’s what they mean in action:

Compassion

We approach each child and family with warmth, patience, and understanding. We celebrate every step forward, no matter how small, and we never lose sight of the human being behind every goal.

Collaboration

We don’t work for families, we work with them. Whether you’re a parent, caregiver, or teacher, we value your input and partner with you in every step of the therapy journey.

Cultural Humility

We approach every interaction with openness and respect, recognizing that each family’s culture and experiences shape their journey. We continually learn from the families we serve, ensuring our interventions are meaningful, inclusive, and responsive to their values and perspectives.

Integrity

We do what is right, not what is easy. We follow ethical standards, prioritize transparency, and make decisions that serve the best interest of your child and your family.

Evidence-Based Practice

Our programs are guided by current research in ABA. Every goal we set, every strategy we use, and every decision we make is rooted in proven science and adapted to your child’s real-life needs.

Trauma-Informed Care

We acknowledge that any individual, whether a child or an adult, may have experienced adverse or distressing events, even when their trauma history is not known. As such, we are committed to creating safe, supportive environments that reflect the principles of trauma-informed care. We focus on recognizing the impact of trauma, fostering trust and emotional safety, offering choice and collaboration, and promoting skill building and empowerment. This approach ensures that every child feels understood, respected, and supported in their growth.

Our Approach to ABA

We teach skills that are:

  • Functional – supporting communication, socialization, independence, emotional regulation, daily living and academic skills

  • Relevant – based on what’s meaningful in your daily life

  • Generalized – taught in natural environments (home, school, community) for long-lasting outcomes

Each program begins with a comprehensive assessment, followed by a tailored treatment plan. Therapy is delivered 1:1 by trained ABA therapists under the supervision of a Registered Behaviour Analyst/Board Certified Behaviour Analyst.

A Note to Parents and Caregivers

Choosing ABA services can feel overwhelming, we understand that. Whether you are new to ABA or have tried other services in the past, we are here to listen, support, and guide you with kindness and clarity.

Every child is a star with their own light. At Nova, we’re honoured to walk alongside your family in helping them shine brighter.
