Understanding ABA Therapy @ Nova: A Compassionate, Evidence-Based Approach
At Nova ABA Services, we believe that families deserve not only access to therapy but also a clear understanding of what we do and why we do it.
We are here to help you better understand Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), the science behind our services and how our unique, value-based approach makes a difference in the lives of children and their families.
What Is ABA Therapy?
Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) is an evidence-based scientific approach used to understand and improve behaviour. ABA focuses on how behaviour works, how it is affected by the environment, and how learning takes place.
Through ABA, we teach meaningful skills such as communication, social interaction, play, self-help, and more and help reduce behaviours that may interfere with a child’s ability to learn or engage in everyday life.
ABA is individualized to each person’s strengths, needs, and environment. It’s not a one-size-fits-all approach and at Nova, it never will be.
Our Core Values in Practice
At Nova, our work is grounded in five core values. Here’s what they mean in action:
1. Compassion
We approach each child and family with warmth, patience, and understanding. We celebrate every step forward, no matter how small, and we never lose sight of the human being behind every goal.
2. Collaboration
We don’t work for families, we work with them. Whether you’re a parent, caregiver, or teacher, we value your input and partner with you in every step of the therapy journey.
3. Cultural Sensitivity
We recognize that each family brings their own culture, values, and perspective. We take time to learn from you and adapt our interventions so they are respectful, inclusive, and meaningful in your context.
4. Integrity
We do what is right, not what is easy. We follow ethical standards, prioritize transparency, and make decisions that serve the best interest of your child and your family.
5. Evidence-Based Practice
Our programs are guided by current research in ABA and child development. Every goal we set, every strategy we use, and every decision we make is rooted in proven science and adapted to your child’s real-life needs.
Our Approach to ABA
We teach skills that are:
-
Functional – supporting communication, socialization, independence, and emotional regulation
-
Relevant – based on what’s meaningful in your daily life
-
Generalized – taught in natural environments (home, school, community) for long-lasting impact
Each program begins with a comprehensive assessment, followed by a tailored treatment plan. Therapy is delivered 1:1 by trained therapists and always supervised by a Registered Behaviour Analyst/Board Certified Behaviour Analyst.
Family Empowerment Is Our Mission
We believe therapy should never happen in isolation. You, as the parent or caregiver, are a vital part of your child’s progress. That’s why we prioritize:
-
Parent coaching and training
-
Regular communication and updates
-
Culturally aligned programming
-
Support beyond the therapy session
When families feel confident, equipped, and empowered - children thrive.
A Note to Parents and Caregivers
Choosing ABA services can feel overwhelming, we understand that. Whether you are new to ABA or have tried other services in the past, we are here to listen, support, and guide you with kindness and clarity.
Every child is a star with their own light. At Nova, we’re honoured to walk alongside your family in helping them shine brighter.
